A man wielding a knife entered a home in Toronto on the evening of Feb. 12, 2018, and attacked two men who were sitting inside, Toronto police told reporters on Tuesday.

The man stabbed both men multiple times, police said, but was then stabbed himself. Both men died at the scene.

Toronto police did not provide a motive.

“This appears to be a random act of violence and is not targeted at any one particular group,” Toronto police spokesperson Constable Mark Tamblyn told reporters.

“These were two men sitting together and one of the victims was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” the police chief added. “They were both in a separate room, at a different place in the residence.”

Police were called at around 9:40 p.m. — not long after the Raptors vs. Toronto FC game — but did not immediately get into the crime. When they did, Tamblyn said, the suspect was gone.

“Toronto police are working in collaboration with the Toronto District School Board,” he said.

Officers who responded saw that the front door appeared to have been kicked in. The brothers’ bodies were found lying face-down in a hallway and bathtub where they had been attacked. Police believe the man they found on the second floor was the same person who entered the home.
